"Another surprise this year came from the long-standing subwoofer manufacturer Hsu Research with their new flagship subwoofer, the VTF-TN1. This sub keeps many of the same elements of their previous flagship, the VTF-15h mkII, but rearranges them into a higher-performance configuration for improved port design and lower bass extension. The surprising element of all of this is that despite the improvements made, Hsu Research managed to lower the pricing and even extend the warranty to 5-years on the electronics. That is pretty shocking in an age where everyone else is raising prices. It even has a smaller footprint than the outgoing sub, albeit at the expense of greater height. An advantage of the smaller footprint is that it becomes easier to implement a multi-sub system, and that is crucial towards getting a linear in-room response. Buyers could have a multi-sub VTF-TN1 system that will have a flat in-room response down to extreme deep bass frequencies with loads of headroom and zero distortion, and it doesn’t have to break the bank. In our review, we noted the near infrasonic extension as well as the powerful mid-bass punch that made this an ideal component for either movies or music applications. It has the deep bass and massive slam for movies, but it also has the low distortion and sharp time delay performance for music, so whether you are a fussy audiophile or a home theater maniac, there is a lot to love about the VTF-TN1."
